BELIEVE

Someone once told me

That your dignity is free

You just got to calculate

Carefully.

But time will confess

You introverted mess

That you’ll know what to expect

Suddenly.

While age staggers on

You’ll reprise and reform

Until you don’t know who

You are anyway.

So what will you say

In a decrepit state

Of memories and times

Passed far away.

You’ll say agony and apathy

Exhaustion and sympathy

It’s a symphony of lies

When a turn of the cheek

Is your device.

What will you believe

On the day you truly leave

This world to walk away

And die astray.

You never were a believer

Anyway.
